Services

A full range of optical services is available at all branches - eye examinations, contact lens fitting, spectacle dispensing, home visits (for the housebound), minor repairs etc.

In addition, at Whitakers in Sowerby Bridge and Mackereths in Halifax, full time workshops are able to cut lenses to fit spectacles on the premises, undertake repairs, modify and adjust spectacle frames.

Also at the Sowerby Bridge, King Cross & Halifax practices, computerised image capture equipment allows the patient to compare frame styles by viewing their appearance on the visual display.

The Sowerby Bridge and Elland practices are at pavement level which allows disabled access and are both fully air-conditioned.

At Whitakers and Mackereth Opticians, great care is taken when examining eyes. The optometrist has the expertise and sophisticated equipment necessary to accurately determine the prescription and assess the health of patient’s eyes. He will advise on all aspects of ocular health and arrange further medical advice if necessary. Many ocular problems are treatable if detected at an early stage.

As part of our extensive aftercare service we send a reminder when it is advisable to have a re-examination. Everybody is strongly recommended to have an eye examination at least every two years – more frequently for children, Glaucoma patients and Diabetics. All our Optometrists have undergone special training and are able to provide a special eye screening service for Calderdale people with Diabetes. This involves dilating the pupil and making a very thorough examination of the retina for diabetic eye disease.

Now available at the Sowerby Bridge branch and Mackereth Opticians is a state of the art retinal camera - which allows an image of the inside of the eye to be taken (like the one to the right) and stored on computer for future comparisons.
