Eye examinations by fully qualified optometrists - we have the expertise and sophisticated equipment necessary to accurately determine the prescription and assess the health of our client’s eyes. We will advise on all aspects of ocular health and arrange further medical advice if necessary. We can check for cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and in some cases, high blood pressure and diabetes. Many ocular problems are treatable if detected at an early stage.
Digital retinal imaging is available – this allows a high resolution image of the retina to be taken to aid diagnosis and allows comparison on future visits.
We are qualified and registered to provide NHS eye screening service for Calderdale people with Diabetes.
Everybody is strongly recommended to have an eye examination at least every two years – more frequently for children, Glaucoma patients and Diabetics.

Contact lens fitting - we supply and fit all types of contact lenses. Please see the contact lens page for more information.

Dispensing of glasses - we have a vast range of frames from designer to budget. Our fully qualified dispensing opticians are able to offer advice on frame styles and lens designs. Please see the frames/lenses page for more information. Computerised image capture equipment allows the client to compare frame styles by viewing their appearance on the visual display.
Please bring your prescription and/or voucher from other opticians to view our wide selection of frames and ask for a quote.

Workshop - Whitakers in Sowerby Bridge has a full time workshop which is able to cut lenses to fit spectacles on the premises, undertake repairs and modify and adjust spectacle frames. Depending on the workload, a while-you-wait service is available.

The Elland practice has a smaller workshop but is able to carry out minor repairs.

Both practices are at pavement level which allows disabled access and are both fully air-conditioned.
